"Coppicing"
The ancient craft of coppicing is undergoing a revival in the UK at the moment and involves cutting trees, in this case mostly beech, close to the ground so that each "stool" provides multiple shoots for harvesting regularly for fencing, firewood, charcoal and other timber products. I would have liked a bit more time for this as it was all but dark within 40 minutes of setting up but I am sufficiently excited by this subject matter to plan a proper day out to get more material for a larger piece next week if the weather holds!
